So you’re planning your first trip to Gettysburg, where do you start? The area is overflowing with historical sites, museums, factory tours, and glimpses at a simpler life.
The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War, the Union victory that ended General Robert E. Lee's second and most ambitious invasion of the North. Often referred to as the "High Water Mark of the Rebellion,” Gettysburg was the Civil War's bloodiest battle and was also the inspiration for President Abraham Lincoln's immortal "Gettysburg Address.”

1. While you are in Gettysburg make it a point to visit the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center: Some fun things to check out are the Gettysburg Museum of the American Civil War, "A New Birth of Freedom,” playing in the theater and the Cyclorama Painting.

2. Another interesting site to see is Devils Den, a rock formation that can be explored by the whole family. Located in the middle of Gettysburg National Military Park below Little Round Top. The rock formation is a great place for children to get some energy out.
3. Stroll Downtown - Gettysburg is about as rich in culture as it is in history. Visitors can find a variety of boutiques, cafes, shops and restaurants lining the streets of downtown, leading right up to historic Lincoln Square. Once in the square, don’t pass up the opportunity to get a presidential selfie with the statue of Abraham Lincoln outside the David Wills House.
4. Countryside Farm Markets - While out enjoying the scenery that Adams County has to offer, be sure to stop at one of the countryside farm markets. It’s one thing to see the orchards and the fields, but to be able to taste the literal fruits of the farmers’ labor is a fun and delicious experience. Markets offer many family friendly activities and when in season, pick your own fruit experiences.
5. Ghosts - Walk with the paranormal at one of the many ghost tours offered in Gettysburg nightly. Visit the haunted spots through town and learn a history tidbit or two along the way. And who knows, you might spot a ghost!
